Not only will you be able to watch and participate in the cooking of a number of traditional Thai dishes; you will also be taken to the market to learn about many types of ingredients. Learn about the many vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices for sale in the market.

An educational and entertaining experience. Learn some new skills which you can take back and practice at home.

fully catered for - a range of substitutes for meat and special vegetarian dishes.
Wayfarers Travel runs its own cookery school in Chiang Mai. We cater to private groups who wish to take a course of one or two days and to choose the dishes that they cook. As we cater to private groups, you will know how many of you will be participating. Other schools have classes of up to 20 people participating which means there is little chance to ask questions or get a close up look at how it should be done. If you book as a group of four then you will take the class as a group of four. Price will be according to group size.

Our classes are scheduled from 9am-3pm. We can schedule evening classes according to availability.

If you are vegetarian: there are vegetarian substitutes for meat in all the dishes.

Included in the price:

Transport to and from the school, in comfortable A/C vehicle.
A trip to the market to see the produce on sale and learn how to pick out the best selection OR instruction on how to make some of the chilli pastes.
An introduction to the ingredients we use and some of the theory behind the preparation of Thai food.
A demonstration of each dish directly before you cook it yourself.
Hands on preparation of each dish - preparing the ingredients, cooking and serving.
Eating all the dishes you have created.
Coffee, tea and drinking water are supplied during the day.
Seasonal fruit tasting.
A souvenir recipe book, which you will be able to take home with you.

This is the price per person for a 1 day course. The price is according to your group size as these courses are for private groups. It includes transport from your hotel to the school and back in the afternoon (only applies to hotels in the city area). You can choose either the market tour or the paste making. If you are doing 2 days then ideally you could do both of these activities. For people wanting to do a 2 day course - the first day we will visit the market and the second day make the chilli paste from scratch.
If you are booking a 2 day course we give a 10% discount off the total cost.

The advantage of our private group course is that you can be sure of a small group with intensive instruction. Other schools teach groups of 10 upwards which means you may not get to see the demonstrations clearly or pick up the tricks needed to produce good Thai cuisine.
